IT IS ARGUED that photography can be considered art. I suggest that I am a "craftsman" in my practice of photography. I believe, no one will deny that, practiced at its upper echelons, photography involves and displays a high degree of craftsmanship.

As with many endeavors which involve craftsmanship in the making of the final creation - architecture. building furniture, fashion design, literature - one can say that "art" exists when the practitioner has embued his creation with "vision" and excellence in the practice of his craft.

It is not necessary for me to refer to my photography as "art." However, it is important that I bring to my photography the sensibilities and workmanship which will best serve my vision.

Mediocrity may exist in the heart of a painter who wields his brush without feeling; it can exist in the hands of a sculpter who chips away in his medium lacking a point of view.

But, for me, photography is "at one" with my soul. I practice my craft to the far reaches of my ability; I will explore ideas with no thought to producing works considered "safe." I know, there will be times my works may be seen as "failures."

But, for those moments when all, in the cosmic sense, comes together then, if you wish, you may refer to my work as ART.
